Fresh Market Update 15/2/19
We are seeing some severe effects from past weather events that will continue for next week or two as we wait for crops to recover.
Leafy products continues to be unstable in supply quantity and quality.
We continue to order light on spinach, salad and rocket mix to ensure we are carrying the freshest stock we can without a lot of carry over.
Product on the rise
Spinach , salad and rocket mix.
Green beans (doubling in price)
Bananas ( although a small easing in price today )
Lettuce ( as we try to retain a quality product ) some cheaper lines available but quality is poor
Snow peas , Sugar snaps (has suffered with crops being cooked off in previous heat wave)
Paw paw , Papaya (extremely short supply )
Broccoli (increase of 30 percent this morning due to very short supply )
Strawberries (extremely short supply with quality compromised severely) would suggest customers buy day to day not expecting fruit to last more than couple days.
Coriander , Asian veg ( very short supply overall with some growers losing whole crops in recent weather )
Lemons again , although Australian now is in high demand causing shortages on supply.
Local corn is struggling and we will have to purchase from market for the next week.
We have been unable to buy Victorian Gourmet fruit as it is of extreme poor quality with no 1st class product to be bought from markets at all. Queensland markets are even rejecting Victorian tomatoes.
South Australia has all but no product as was affected by up to 50 degree temps over last month. Crops will take time to recover.
We will see Queensland, Stanthorpe or WA fruit to be best available next week but prices will be well up , possibly over $50 case.
Roma sauce Tomatoes will be available again Monday as they start a new crop.
10kg round sauce Tomatoes may not be available at this stage as most agents are trying to get too much for what the fruit is worth.
Products to ease
Zucchini ,carrots and coloured capsicum the veges of choice.
Honeydew melons are starting to ease back with the cooler weather helping crops.
Lots of Rockmelon choices available.
Cucumbers Continental and Lebanese look to both be well priced early next week.
New season William pears are good value.
Product to finish
Mangoes; Calypso are finished with some small Kietts available today. These are not the best quality and we will not purchase any more into next week.
Mandarins; no lines left worth having.
Local sweet corn will have a week or so gap
